About EVLT for Varicose Veins

EVLT uses a thin laser fiber, placed inside a refluxing vein under ultrasound guidance, to gently close the vein. Blood naturally reroutes to nearby healthy veins, and the treated vein is reabsorbed over time. Most patients walk the same day and return to light activity within 24–48 hours.

Frequently asked questions

EVLT is performed under local anesthesia. Most patients describe only mild pressure or warmth during the procedure and some soreness or bruising over the treated leg in the days afterward.

The procedure itself typically takes about 30–60 minutes in our office. Plan on a longer visit overall to allow for preparation and short recovery.

EVLT may be covered when symptoms and ultrasound findings support medical necessity. Many plans require documentation of conservative care, such as a trial of compression stockings, before approving treatment.

Most patients walk the same day and resume normal activity within 24–48 hours. Strenuous exercise, hot baths, and long flights are typically avoided briefly.

Compression stockings are commonly recommended after EVLT to support healing and reduce swelling. Your physician will explain how long to wear them.
